LHSRR Long-Term Care, Rehabilitation Services, and Sub-Acute/ Transitional Care
In its previous reports, the HSRC noted that it is conducting research in the areas of long-term care, rehabilitation care, transitional/sub-acute care and reinvestment in home care with the intent to establish policies and planning guideline to guide its restructuring decisions in these areas. This summer, the HSRC will release its policy document regarding each of these areas for broad discussion and feedback. In the interim, the HSRC will employ the following approach to its analysis of hospital-based rehabilitation care, long-term care, transitional/sub-acute care, and reinvestment in home care related to hospital restructuring:
- Its conclusions concerning those services in Ottawa, Metropolitan Toronto, London and Lambton will be released in the form of Notices of Intention to Issue Directions or Advice pending feedback and representations on its policies and the affected communities
- Once the policies are finalized, the HSRC will release its conclusions as final Directions and Advice. Further, it will review its decisions in communities where it has already rendered its final directions and advice to determine if amendments are required.
In the interim, in London, the intended advice to the Minister of Health regarding Grace Villa Private Hospital should still be treated as intended advice and not final advice concerning long-term care services. Further, the intended directions to the St. Joseph's Health Care London and intended advice to the Minister concerning transitional/sub-acute care beds should still be treated as intended directions and advice. The number of rehabilitation beds at the London Health Sciences Centre has not been changed but it may be revised once the policy is finalized. The specific Notices of Intention to Issue Directions and Advice concerning these areas in London will be released in the summer.
