DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS AT ST. JOSEPH'S HEALTH CARE LONDON

Effective Monday, June 1, 2009 St. Joseph’s Health Care, London and London Health Sciences Centre are creating designated outdoor smoking areas (DSAs) at each facility. This is an important initiative aimed at creating a healthier hospital environment.

Limiting the outdoor areas where smoking is allowed respects the rights of non-smokers not to be exposed to second-hand smoke, while at the same time recognizes the needs of those who smoke. As a health care institution we are committed to reviewing the need for designated smoking areas every few years.

The designated smoking areas (DSAs) will be away from entrances and pathways used by the public. If you are a patient or visitor and smoke, please review the maps provided to see where the DSAs are located. Other than the DSA, smoking is not allowed anywhere else on the hospital property – including at entrances or in your car while on our property. Your health care team member will have information and maps for you if you need them during your stay with us.

Beginning Monday, June 1, 2009 smoking will only be allowed in the DSAs - all other outdoor areas on hospital property will be smoke-free.

Thank you!

Where are the DSAs?

If you are visiting any of our other facilities, for example the St. Joseph’s Family Medical and Dental Centre, please ask where smoking is permitted at that facility.
