Much work has work has been done at the provincial level to ensure progress toward a responsive mental health care system.
Changing Directions, Changing Lives
Changing Directions, Changing Lives is the first mental health strategy for Canada. Its purpose is to help improve mental health and well-being for all people living in Canada and to create a mental health system that can truly meet the needs of people of all ages living with mental health problems and illnesses and their families.
Making it Happen Report
In 1998 the Ontario government set a plan in motion to reform Ontario's mental health system Making It Happen, the framework for a comprehensive, mental health service delivery system was created to implement the plan for mental health reform.
The Kirby Report
Senator Michael Kirby chaired the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology (1999-2006) and under his governance; the committee produced the first-ever national report on mental health, mental illness and addiction called Out of the Shadows at Last, published in 2006.
