REGIONAL PERINATAL OUTREACH PROGRAM
This program was designed to provide the Perinatal Departments in Southwestern
Ontario with continuing medical and nursing education.
Specific objectives, achieved through promoting evidence-based
practice, are:
- To help ensure women and their babies receive optimal care throughout
the reproductive period.
- To promote an equally-high standard of care throughout the region.
- To reduce maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity.
- To reduce the incidence of low birth weight.
- To promote optimal and equitable use of perinatal services.
- To minimize the need for inter-hospital transfer of sick patients.
- To foster improved communication between community hospitals and
the tertiary centre.
