Dynamic Balance Training: This new class combines T'ai Chi movement
patterns and lower body strengthening. It will focus on dynamic balance
training and exercises to improve leg strength, necessary to prevent
falls and improve mobility. The program is offered twice a week and
is taught by an older adult instructor.
Osteoporosis/Functional Fitness Program: Many of the participants
in this program are referred through the St. Josephs Health Care London
Osteoporosis Program. This program addresses the needs of a more frail
older adult population. The class includes low impact aerobics and walking,
working on muscular strength, balance and flexibility.
The COLD Program (Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease) is instructed
by a physiotherapist from St. Joseph's Health Centre. Sessions can include
the first hour session in the weight room, gymnasium, second hour with
breathing exercises, stretching, and exercises with a wand; paced walking
for 15 minutes.
The Home Support Exercise Program (HSEP) is designed to enable
frail, homebound older adults to maintain or improve functional mobility
and independence. The program is comprised of 10 simple, yet progressive
exercises designed to enable older adults to enhance and/or maintain
their functional mobility and independence (balance, strength and mobility).
