Veterans Care: Psychosocial Support Program
Location of unit:
The Psychosocial Support Program has one unit, 4 Bruce/Elgin, located on the 4th floor in the Western Counties Wing of Parkwood Hospital.
Description of population served:
We assist Veterans whose daily functioning is primarily affected by mental health conditions and mild to moderate cognitive impairments.
Philosophy of care:
Our goal is to maintain Veterans’ physical and social well-being throughout their lifespan regardless of changes in their capacity for independence. We facilitate personal well-being and community living by supporting social skills, encouraging responsibility for one’s own actions and offering opportunities for involvement in structured and casual communal activities.
We work with families so they are aware of and can adjust to the changes that happen over time with aging and various health conditions.
Services offered:
We provide the necessary level of support to the Veteran through an interdisciplinary team with expertise specific to the needs of the Veterans they serve.
We provide many opportunities for residents to socialize and participate in formal (organized) and informal (casual) activities based on leisure preferences and care needs. These activities enable veterans to relax in the companionship of others and socialize among themselves as well as with family and friends.
