Veterans Care: Veterans Arts
Location of program
The Veterans Arts studios occupy 4000 square feet of specially designed space on level 1 of the Arthur J. Hobbin’s Building at Parkwood Hospital.
Description of the population served
The Veterans Arts program, established in 1946, offers a variety of traditional and contemporary art and craft activities. There are three well equipped studios, on unit activities and a music therapy program.
Philosophy of care
The Veterans Arts is a vibrant communal area where Veterans complete beautiful works of art and fun projects while enjoying the company of other Veterans and art therapists/instructors. Projects are adapted to the needs of each participant. No artistic experience is necessary.
Services offered
The Veterans Arts Program is fully funded by Veterans Affairs Canada and participation is free for resident Veterans at Parkwood. Participants can buy what they create or they can receive the profits from the sale of their work. Two large, annual sales are held in June and November to coincide with D-Day and Remembrance Day.
We adapt projects to the needs of each participant. No artistic experience is necessary. We collaborate with other Veterans Care Program staff and are assisted by an indispensable team of volunteers.
