Excellent Care for All Act

At St. Joseph’s, quality improvement is an ongoing priority that helps us to enhance patient care, achieve better clinical outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction.

In June 2010, the Ontario Government passed the Excellent Care for All Act. As part of this act, Ontario hospitals are required to develop and post a Quality Improvement Plan by April 1, 2011 using a specific format provided by the Ontario Health Quality Council.

St. Joseph’s 2012-2013 Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) provides a meaningful way for us to clearly articulate our accountability to our community, patients and staff and outline our top improvement targets and initiatives for the year.

In 2011-2012, we focused on:

  • improving access to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast cancer
  • reducing hospital acquired infections
  • improving access to cancer surgical care
  • minimizing the use of seclusion and restraints in mental health care

View our progress on these areas.

Other parts of the Act include items such as the development of a patient declaration of values and linking a portion of executive compensation to the achievement of quality plan performance improvement targets.
