Ivey Eye Institute: Mission and Vision

Who We Are

A Proud History of Care

Dr. Alex Mao, Ivey Eye Institute

The distinguished history of service of these three eye care centres ensures that, in the future, the Ivey Eye Institute will continue to be a leader in providing state-of-the-art medical and surgical eye care for people of all ages.

The Institute is recognized as one of the premier Canadian centres for cataract removal and intra-ocular lens implantation and has attracted top eye specialists in other fields.

Many treatments for eye problems have been pioneered in Canada. Ophthalmology has been practiced and taught in London for over a century, producing graduates for communities across the continent.

Leaders in Eye Care

Today the Institute continues a leadership role in many areas, including foldable implant technology, drug therapy research, orbital reconstruction and the management of complex ocular disorders on an out-patient basis.

The specialists at Ivey Eye Institute are an integral part of the medical and surgical team, treating diseases and conditions of the eye for adults and children, and helping to diagnose general medical disorders.

The Ivey Eye Institute consultants conduct a wide range of practice centred on cataract and anterior segment surgery, children’s eye disease, orbital and ocular plastics, retinal, vitreous, external eye diseases and glaucoma.

The Ivey Eye Institute is affiliated with The University of Western Ontario. The Department of Ophthalmology of the University of Western Ontario is located in the Institute. The mission of the Ivey Eye Institute is to provide eye care for the community, to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in medicine, and to promote research in diagnosing and treating eye diseases.
