Mental Health programs within Specialized Geriatric Services are affiliated with both the Ontario PsychoGeriatric Association (OPGA) and the Team Exchange Directory.
The OPGA is an interdisciplinary association dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of the elderly. The OPGA was founded in 1974 to bring together professionals, seniors and students who are interested in psychogeriatrics and all aspects of the well-being of the aged. The OPGA is a leading voice for older persons in Ontario with mental health needs through: leadership, networking and partnership, education and support, and advocacy.
The Team Exchange Directory is comprised of Geriatric Psychiatry Outreach Programs throughout Ontario. These programs provide specialized assessment, consultation, treatment and education to older adults, their families and service providers. Programs are also mandated to provide community development and advocacy. Programs are interdisciplinary and may include a combination of social work, nursing, occupational therapy, a consulting psychiatrist and/or a geriatrician.
