WEBINAR - The Bright Side of the Breast: Contrast Enhanced Mammography

A continuing medical education program of the Ontario Association of Radiologists

Contrast-enhanced mammography (CESM) is a growing technique for breast cancer detection and diagnosis that uses contrast-enhanced recombined images for assessment of tumor angiogenesis similar to MRI. Because of its similar performance and ease of implementation, CESM is being adopted for multiple indications previously reserved for MRI.

The utilization of CESM in Canada is currently low and available at a small number of breast imaging centers, but could increase rapidly given many potential indications for clinical use. The low rate of adoption of CESM may result from a lack of familiarity with this technology and uncertainty regarding how to incorporate CESM into existing breast imaging practices.

Since October 2017, the Breast Care Program of St. Joseph’s Health Care London has led nationally in adopting this novel technology, with about 1000 cases performed every year.

OAR The Bright Side of the Breast: Contrast Enhanced Mammography CME was organized by the breast imaging team at St. Joseph’s in collaboration with the Ontario Association of Radiologists to provide an overview of CESM, specifically pertaining to implementation and future use in Canada. The course director is Dr. Anat Kornecki, Breast Radiology Lead at St. Joseph’s, head of the Division of Breast Imaging at Western University, and a scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute and Robarts Research Institute in London.
