Parkwood Institute participates with educational institutions across Canada and beyond in placing students from across all disciplines in a clinical atmosphere for the purposes of education and skill development. Our team members are committed to continuous learning and our environment is supportive of individual growth and knowledge sharing.

We are a partner in the academic health sciences community of London and region through the Southwest Academic Health Sciences Network.

We offer a variety of enriching student learning experiences in our various areas of care serving patients with complex and chronic diseases, acute care, chronic mental illness, surgery, rehabilitation and recovery needs, veterans and residents in our long-term care programs.

Research

At our research arm, Lawson Health Research Institute, new knowledge is developed and continually applied directly to patient care.

Mental Health research at Lawson strives to develop and evaluate proven interventions earlier and more effectively in the lives of those we serve. Objectives are to identify and promptly deliver services that enhance the quality of life for persons living with mental illness, evaluate outcomes, identify the gaps and investigate new approaches. 

Parkwood Institute also encompasses the Aging, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Care Research Centre and the Centre for Cognitive Vitality and Brain Health. As one of the largest hospital-based research institutes in Canada, Lawson is committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world. Within the Institute, a 'bench to bedside' approach to medical research is encouraged. This means, our researchers focus their efforts on the development of new knowledge that can be applied directly to patient care within the hospitals. Through collaboration and the sharing of their discoveries, Lawson researchers make a difference in patients' lives every day.
