Spiritual Care: Clinical Pastoral Education

Clinical Pastoral Education is a training program in spiritual and religious care that is client centered, honours religious differences, and evokes spiritual capacities and resources of others for self care and well being. The trainee develops the arts and skills of pastoral work together with a small group of colleagues while being guided by a teaching supervisor. Training includes experience in the practice of providing care in a multidisciplinary context where the insights of other professions promote creative dialogue and where collaboration with other workers supports excellence.

Chaplain interns spend about half their time in various training activities and supervision and the other half in spiritual care work with patients, families, staff, and treatment teams. Assigned to specific treatment areas, the intern works collaboratively with a staff chaplain and as a part of a treatment team. The interns participate in the work of the Spiritual Care team of our organization in the context of our mission, vision, and values.

Our program is accredited with the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education, is affiliated with St. Peter's Seminary at The University of Western Ontario and has links with other partners in London.

Program options include a full time spring/summer unit for eleven weeks and a part time unit in the fall and winter. We provide both "basic" and "advanced" training in C.P.E.

People interested in C.P.E. are invited to inquire and to apply at least three months before the start of a training unit. Contact the teaching supervisors at phone number 519-646-6100 ext. 66029. In addition to discussing your questions in the context of our training programs here, we can also help you to connect with additional CPE programs in Southwestern Ontario.
