London team wins national award

Sep. 29, 2011

Investigators at both St. Joseph’s Health Care London and The University of Western Ontario were recently selected for an award of excellence at the 15th Annual International Psychogeriatric Association Congress in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Dr. Lisa VanBussel, physician leader for the Geriatric Psychiatry Program at Regional Mental Health Care London attended the conference as a representative of a research group that includes Iris Gutmanis and Ryan DeForge with Specialized Geriatric Services, Ann Jarvie, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Mark Speechley, Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

The poster entitled “Using Theatre to Explore Long-Term Care Home Healthcare Provider Needs” showcases the use of theatre as a knowledge exchange strategy. Poster presentations are an important focus at the congress as they provide an opportunity for sharing information from more than 1500 participants from around the world, from a wide variety of perspectives.

The International Psychogeriatric Association represents more than 66 countries and is a unique and diverse professional healthcare community that promotes better geriatric mental health – across disciplines, across borders, and across geriatric issues.

Only six such awards were received from more than 400 poster presentations.
