Making Christmas Merrier for Veterans

Dec. 23, 2011

While most of us are gathered around the tree on Christmas morning, dedicated members of the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) will be with the veterans at St. Joseph’s Parkwood Hospital.

Every Christmas morning, RCL members and Santa come to Parkwood laden with gifts and good cheer to bring moments of joy to the veterans’ lives. Together with volunteers, they take the time to chat with each veteran as they present them with their gifts. “The veterans glow when they see members of the RCL,” says therapeutic recreation specialist Tichelle Schram. “It’s a very emotional morning.”

Media are invited to come to Parkwood Hospital on Christmas morning for the following photo opportunities:

Date: December 25
Time: - 9:30 Legion members meet in Parkwood Hospital Auditorium with gifts for over 200 veterans
- 10:15 Gifts distributed to veterans
Location: Parkwood Hospital, 801 Commissioners Road East, London
