Homes for Special Care (HSC)

The HSC program began in 1964 and was designed to provide supervised housing to individuals leaving the former provincial psychiatric hospitals. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care has a set of guidelines in place that homeowners must comply with an order to have their license renewed on an annual basis. The Ministry oversees payment of a per diem to the homeowners as well as working with the Public Guardian and Trustee to pay for residents personal expenses. The hospital employs case workers to ensure homeowners are following these standards and provide case management support to HSC clients.
