Last-minute gifts that provide comfort for those in hospital

Dec. 22, 2015

With just three days before Christmas there is still time to make a charitable donation in honour of a loved one as a last-minute gift for someone on your list. Every donation made to St. Joseph’s annual Season of Celebration campaign will help purchase care and comfort items for those in hospital during the holidays, and all year round.

Gifts made to the campaign will also light pink Lights of Caring across St. Joseph’s main sites as a symbol of the community’s support. The pink lights provide a heartwarming display for patients and residents that can’t go home for the holidays.

This year’s Season of Celebration campaign has raised 85 per cent of its $500,000 goal. Funds will support care and comfort items, such as blanket warmers that provide warmth to patients in recovery and pressure reducing mattresses that prevent elderly patients from developing pressure ulcers. It will also support the renovation and expansion of the Palliative Care Unit at Parkwood Institute enhancing the compassionate, end-of-life care for patients and their families.

The community has until December 31 to make a gift and receive a charitable tax receipt. To learn more visit www.seasonofcelebration.com.
