Referred to as the “Oscars” of St. Joseph’s by past recipients, the awards honour staff, physicians and volunteers who share the remarkable attributes of the Sisters.

London, Ontario – Twenty-eight years ago, Chris Fraser was 23 and exploring the world when she was swept off an ocean-side cliff by a rogue wave while traveling in South Africa. The accident left her a paraplegic.

After intensive rehabilitation at St. Joseph’s Parkwood Institute (then Parkwood Hospital), Fraser returned to university, completed a degree in nutrition and came back to Parkwood Institute’s rehabilitation program, this time as a registered dietitian, joining the same team that made her recovery possible. Dedicated to improving the lives of people with acquired brain injury and spinal cord injury, Fraser, known for going above and beyond to make a difference, is an inspiration to patients and colleagues alike.

On Friday March 18, Fraser and three other St. Joseph’s Health Care London staff members will receive a much-treasured Sisters of St. Joseph Award for Excellence. Presentation of these awards is one of St. Joseph’s most heartwarming and meaningful traditions. Referred to as the “Oscars” of St. Joseph’s by past recipients, the awards recognize staff, physicians and volunteers for their excellence, positive attitude, reliability, honesty, efficiency, creativity, respect, caring, compassion, empathy and appreciation for the work of others. All are nominated by their colleagues. Without knowing anyone’s identity, an awards selection committee comprised of representatives from across the organization selects the recipients. To be nominated and to be a recipient is a distinguished honour.

The awards are part of the St. Joseph’s Day festivities across St. Joseph’s. Otherwise known as The Feast of St. Joseph, the day commemorates the life of St. Joseph, who is patron to many occupations and organizations, including the Catholic Church, the Sisters of St. Joseph and many St. Joseph’s health care organizations around the world.

Media are invited to attend the Sisters of St. Joseph Awards for Excellence. Interviews can be arranged just prior to the ceremony. Please call ahead to arrange, as below.

When: Friday, March 18 at 2:00 pm
