Twenty-nine hospitals took part in Canadian Blood Services’ summer Hospital Challenge
Staff, physicians, volunteers, family and friends helped earn St. Joseph Health Care London (St. Joseph’s) first place in Canadian Blood Service’s (CBS) Hospital challenge. With 84 donations during June, July and August, St. Joseph’s came out on top among 29 Ontario hospitals in donations per capita (hospital employee population).
The challenge is an extension of CBS’ Partners for Life program – a nationwide program that engages corporate companies and community organizations in donating blood on a larger scale.
“When organizations like St. Joseph’s participate in this challenge, they boost collections when we need blood the most,” says Michael Betel, Director of Donor Relations (Ontario), Canadian Blood Services. “Canadian Blood Services congratulates St. Joseph’s and appreciates the organization’s vital role in increasing blood donations during the summer months.”
As a Partners for Life member, St. Joseph’s sets an annual blood donation target for the organization, plays an important role in increasing awareness of the need for blood, and rallies to make a strong and lasting commitment to blood donation.
“Being a Catholic health care organization, our partnership with CBS is yet another way of living our mission to minimize the effects of injury, disease and disability,” says St. Joseph’s President and CEO Dr. Gillian Kernaghan. “This is the second year for the Hospital Challenge at St. Joseph’s and I’m most proud that our staff, physicians, volunteers, family and friends stepped to up to the plate, and rolled up their sleeves in support of our community.”
