An award winning partnership

In 2009, the Forensic Psychiatry Program at St. Joseph’s Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care collaborated with St. Leonard’s Community Services London and Region (SLCS) to create specialized support for patients transitioning from the hospital back into the community. As a partnership that keeps on growing, it only makes sense that both St. Joseph’s and SLCS continue to award each other’s efforts in promoting recovery and rehabilitation for the individuals they each serve.

In June 2017, St. Joseph’s awarded SLCS with the Community Partner of Distinction President’s Award for their mutual purpose in promoting positive change for individuals with mental illness who have been in conflict with the law.

Now, only a few months later, Allan Tetzlaff, Coordinator at Southwest Centre has been awarded the 2017 Janet McEwan Award for the Advancement of the Mission and Vision of SLCS. The award recognizes an individual who has made a contribution in three areas: significant promotion of positive change in all persons; significant assistance to a SLCS client to reach his or her potential; and/or through a significant contribution to the promotion of a safer community.

“Allan was selected as the winner for his ability to put clients first,” says Heather Lumley, Executive Director, SLCS. “Allan goes above and beyond for each individual we work with.”

In his work with SLCS, Allan focuses on harnessing the expertise of frontline staff by providing them with the education and tools they need to make rehabilitative efforts for patients more successful.

“The principal of all the work I do with SLCS is to open the door to the community for individuals who require an additional level of support,” says Allan.

The Janet McEwan Award honours the former city councillor’s deep and rich history of service to her community, of being present and fighting for change, and of commitment and conviction with respect to building safe communities for all. Recipients of the award represent these outstanding attributes.

St. Joseph’s congratulates Allan on this distinguished honour.
