St. Joseph’s has launched a new hand hygiene campaign to improve our overall hand hygiene compliance as part of our relentless pursuit of safety - a strategic priority for St. Joseph’s.
Though our rates are very good, there is always room for improvement. Ultimately, we would like to surpass our overall goal of 95 per cent.
Reducing infection is everyone’s responsibility and this campaign will have a strong focus on patient and resident engagement. We want to encourage any of those who come to us for care to do their part in infection prevention and to feel comfortable reminding any care provider to wash their hands.
We will be communicating with patients and residents though various promotional materials including bedside posters, buttons, social media, elevator wraps and surveys.
Our clinical staff will continue to practice hand hygiene at the right moment in our clinical settings and upon entering and exiting our facilities. We are asking patients and residents to do the same.
Clinical staff will also discuss with patients, families and visitors the importance of proper hand hygiene and when to clean hands, and by demonstrating proper cleaning of hands, whether with alcohol based hand rub or soap and water. As well as letting patients and residents know that it is ok to remind care providers to clean their hands.
Thank you for your support in continuing to promote and improve hand hygiene compliance, ensuring a safe environment for all, and earning the complete confidence of those we serve.
