Lawson Health Research Institute is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. A Canadian leader, Lawson is ranked eighth in the country for Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals List for 2018 by Re$search Infosource. Lawson has maintained this strong position for the past five years and keeps the institute within the top five institutions in Ontario.

As one of the largest hospital-based research institutes in Canada, Lawson tackles the most pressing challenges in health care through innovative approaches. Collaboration connects the researchers directly with patients and clinicians, bringing the best science from the lab together with the latest knowledge from the clinical teams.

Lawson’s key affiliations include the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, and over 200 business and industry partners worldwide.

Education and Training

Clinician and medical students care for a patientSt. Joseph's is an academic teaching hospital affiliated with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. We are committed to education and training to support the future generations of health providers.

Medical training:

With Western University, St. Joseph's faciliates training for medical students, residents and fellows. There are 650 residents who train and work at St. Joseph's and London Health Sciences Centre to become fully licensed physicians.

Residents and fellows deliver front line medical care in care units, urgent care, surgical and medical wards, outpatient clinics, family doctors' offices and other hospital facilities. Residents assess patients, order tests, perform procedures, write prescriptions and make treatment decisions. They also help train future doctors by teaching medical students and other residents.

Training nurses and others students:

St. Joseph's trains nurses and health professionals. Together with London Health Sciences Centre, we train pproximately 1400 Nursing, Allied Health and other students ranging from secondary school to university graduate level programs every year.
