St. Joseph’s Hospital continues to transform its care delivery and academic focus to reflect advancements in health care and prepare for emerging needs. The shift from inpatient treatment to almost exclusively ambulatory care has involved major changes to facilities, enhanced technology, new partnerships and care provider roles. The hospital continues to expand its role in day surgery, treatment and illness-prevention programs through comprehensive, specialized ambulatory care services.

Ambulatory Medicine
Centre for Lung Health:
Includes the Asthma Centre, Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COLD) program and Pulmonary Function Lab to provide a dynamic therapeutic approach and full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services for patients who have respiratory diseases.

Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism: Brings together diabetes care, education and clinical research in a central location to provide leading-edge assessment, treatment and education for patients with diabetes, endocrine and metabolic disorders.

Infectious Diseases Care Program: Provides medical, psychiatric, nursing, social work, pharmacy and clinical nutrition services for people with infectious diseases, including those living with HIV or AIDS.

Osteoporosis and Bone Disease Program: Prevention, management and rehabilitation, risk assessment, diagnosis and fracture management for people with osteoporosis.

Pain Management Program: Diagnosis and treatment of chronic non-cancer pain allowing individuals to receive a treatment program they can follow with the help of their family doctor.

Rheumatology Centre: Multidisciplinary treatment and education programs for such conditions as inflammatory arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, and scleroderma, with a focus on early detection, prevention of disability, pain reduction and self- management.

Breast Care Centre: Comprehensive care, from emotional, spiritual and practical support, to diagnostic, pathology and surgical services, for breast cancer and non-cancer related breast disease.

Gastroenterology Program, including Endoscopy Clinic: Offers a full range of gastrointestinal surgery procedures and has a full endoscopic facility providing a broad spectrum of specialized diagnostic and treatment options for patients with gastrointestinal disorders.

Colposcopy Clinic: Offers assessment and treatment for a wide range of gynecological conditions.

Surgical Services
Hand and Upper Limb Centre: Comprehensive care for hand and upper limb injuries, specializing in both plastic and orthopedic surgery, as well as therapy, education and research.

Ivey Eye Institute: Specialized eye care for pediatric and adult patients, providing advanced medical, diagnostic and surgical services, including prevention through screening and visual rehabilitation, orthoptics, low vision clinic, and regional consultation services through the Ophthalmic Imaging Network.

Urology Centre: General urology surgery with a focus on leading-edge robotics, erectile dysfunction procedures, prostate surgery, and medical management of kidney stones, including lithotripsy.

General Surgery: Breast cancer, ear, nose and throat, dental and other types of general surgery.

A leader in robotic surgery, St. Joseph’s continues to expand minimally invasive expertise across all surgical services.

Primary Care
Urgent Care Centre: One-stop health services for individuals of all ages who have a non-life threatening illness or injury.

Family Medical and Dental Centre: General practice, periodontal and oral surgery, health promotion, illnessprevention and active treatment of disease.

Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centre: Care for women, children and men experiencing sexual assault and/or domestic violence.

Diagnostic Imaging Centre
Bone Mineral Density: Testing to measure the amount of calcium in specific regions of bone, enabling estimates of bone strength.

Computerized Tomography (CT): High speed imaging using state-of-the-art 64-slice scanner for a variety of purposes, including advanced cardiac and 3D imaging.

Interventional Radiology: Imaging support for and treatment of a variety of conditions including ablation therapy, porta-cath insertions, joint diagnosis, injections and biopsy procedures.

General Radiology: Broad-based imaging including gastrointestinal radiography offering GI series, large and small bowel examinations, modified swallows and proctography, and kidney x-rays. Satellite service at Parkwood Hospital.

Breast Imaging: Fully digital services providing state-of-the-art mammography screening, diagnostics, ultrasound and biopsy.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): Musculoskeletal imaging of head, neck and spine, including 3D imaging and angiography.

Nuclear Medicine: State-of-the-art imaging using radioacative materials for urology, rehabilitation and diabetes programs.

Hybrid Imaging: Providing anatomical and biological assessment in a single examination. State-of-the-art PET/CT and SPECT/CT available.

Ultrasound: Supports the breast, musculoskeletal, and urology programs.
