Continuing physician shortage at St. Joseph’s Urgent Care Centre results in reduced hours of operations extended until March 31, 2011

Jan. 27, 2011

As a result of a continuing physician shortage in St. Joseph’s Urgent Care Centre (UCC) interim hours put in place for the month of January of 8am-4pm, 7 days a week, will now remain in effect until March 31, 2011.

This is a necessary measure as efforts to recruit and replace physician vacancies has not yet resulted in enough clinicians to re-establish former hours of operation.

The Urgent Care Centre remains an integral part of St. Joseph’s mission and a vital component of services to our community. St. Joseph's medical leaders are working hard to fill the physician gaps in St. Joseph’s UCC schedule while maintaining full service levels in our communities very busy emergency departments.

For non-life threatening conditions, for example colds, we ask the public to consider the following options before coming to the UCC:

Contact your family doctor or go to a walk-in clinic;
For general health advice and information 24 hours a day, seven days a week contact Telehealth Ontario 1-866-797-0000.

In the case of a medical emergency, phone 911 or go to your nearest Emergency Department.
