For six hours, on one day, people from across our region will take part in an experience of a lifetime - engaging in a compelling fun fitness event, they will ‘bust-a-move’ to positively impact breast health in our community.

Today, St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation announced the launch of their new fundraising event: Bust a Move for Breast Health London. The announcement was made during the hospital’s official opening of the new Breast Care Centre at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The national fitness extravaganza, to be held April 6, 2013 at the London Convention Centre, is a first for Southwestern Ontario and will be pivotal to increasing awareness of breast care and health issues for both women and men across the region. The event will raise significant dollars to support medical equipment, patient care and comfort items, and research in support of St. Joseph’s new Breast Care Centre.

“London hasn’t seen an event quite like Bust a Move and we are thrilled to bring it to our community,” says Michelle Campbell, Foundation President and CEO. “Not only will it be a day of fun and fitness with friends, it will have a lasting impact on the thousands that seek care at St. Joseph’s each year.”

Bust a Move is a team event, during which participants will ‘get their groove on’ by taking part in fun fitness sessions choreographed by leading fitness experts. The final exercise session will be led by a celebrity, to be announced later this year, who will help provide the motivation to enjoy and complete the event.

“It’s a celebration of breast health and a chance to make a real difference in our community and have fun while doing it,” say event chair, and Foundation Board member Frank Longo. “There are already some great community partners who have taken the pledge, and are ready to have some fun, and we welcome others to join us and make a difference.”

What is Bust a Move for Breast Health?

On April 6, 2013 St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation will host London’s first ever Bust a Move for Breast Health.

Bust a Move is more than an event – it’s a movement engaging more than 500 men and women who will participate in a fun, fitness extravaganza at the London Convention Centre that will raise more than $500,000 for breast care at St. Joseph’s Health Care London. They will ‘bust-a-move’ for breast health.

Originating in Halifax in 2010, Bust a Move for Breast Health London is one of several Bust a Move events taking place in 2013 as part of a national annual effort to challenge Canadians to take their fitness to new heights and raise funds to support care, education and equipment vital to breast health.

How will the event work?

Individuals or teams will take part in six hours of energy filled fitness sessions choreographed by leading fitness experts. The final exercise session is led by a celebrity who will infuse participants with the energy needed to complete of the fitness challenge.

To take part, teams and individuals must raise a minimum of $1,000 per person before event day – April 6, 2013. Register online

How will Bust a Move benefit breast care patients?

At the heart of this event is the cause of breast health. Through fundraising efforts of participants and the generosity of sponsors, more than $500,000 will be directed toward imaging equipment and patient comfort items to benefit those receiving care at St. Joseph’s Breast Care Centre.

Corporate Involvement

Bust a Move for Breast Health provides the perfect opportunity for companies to participate – and improve the health and well-being of their employees. Through a corporate engagement strategy, nearly 50 per cent of all event participants are likely to be part of a corporate team.

Voluntarism

Organized by a volunteer committee of community leaders, the Bust a Move event will involve nearly  400 volunteers on event day to make it the best experience possible for participants and sponsors.  Volunteer recruitment is currently underway. For those interested, visit: sjhcfoundation.org
