The gift of music

Dec. 20, 2010

For Cindy Benninghoff, organist and music director of the Port Stanley and Dexter United churches, music is much more than a career. It’s a life-long passion. And when she could no longer play music due to excruciating pain in her hands, surgery was the only option

Surgeons at the Hand and Upper Limb Centre (HULC) at St. Joseph’s Hospital operated on both of Benninghoff’s hands to replace the arthritic bone at the base of the thumbs with tendons from her forearms.

For the accomplished pianist and violinist, the results have sweet music. She can play again. With deep gratitude, Benninghoff has since given the gift of music to St. Joseph’s several times by performing for staff, patients and visitors.

Benninghoff was at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Dec. 20 to share her talent, celebrate the season and say thanks to the HULC team for giving her music career a second life.
