London, Ontario – A physician, registered practical nurse, dietary aide and occupational therapist – very different roles, each working at a different St. Joseph’s Health Care London site. Yet this year’s outstanding recipients of the Sisters of St. Joseph Awards for Excellence have much in common – a remarkable ability to connect with colleagues, patients and residents, a guiding belief in the power of respect and compassion, and a tireless commitment to excellence in all its forms.
Presentation of the Sisters of St. Joseph Awards for Excellence is one of St. Joseph’s most heartwarming and meaningful traditions. The awards honour the legacy of the founding Sisters of St. Joseph by recognizing staff, physicians and volunteers who share the Sisters’ remarkable attributes - excellence, positive attitude, reliability, honesty, efficiency, creativity, respect, caring, compassion, empathy and appreciation for the work of others.
Recipients are nominated by their colleagues. To be nominated and to be a recipient is a distinguished honour. The 2019 recipients are:
- Dr. Rookaya Mather, ophthalmologist, Ivey Eye Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital
- Martha Scott, occupational therapist, Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team, Parkwood Institute Main Building
- Corinne Wilson, registered practical nurse, Assessment Program, Parkwood Institute Mental Health Care Building
- Marie Carroll, dietary aide, Food and Nutrition Services, Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care
Media are invited to attend the Sisters of St. Joseph Awards for Excellence. Interviews can be arranged just prior to the ceremony. Please call ahead to arrange.
When: Tuesday, March 19 at 2:00 pm
Where: Parkwood Institute Main Building Auditorium, 550 Wellington Road South, London, Ont.
The awards are part of the St. Joseph’s Day festivities across St. Joseph’s. Otherwise known as The Feast of St. Joseph, the day commemorates the life of St. Joseph, who is patron to many occupations and organizations, including the Catholic Church, the Sisters of St. Joseph and many St. Joseph’s health care organizations around the world.
