From medical imaging that could find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease to sending fruit flies up in space to study kidney stones in astronauts, St. Joseph’s and its research “Enterprise”, Lawson Health Research Institute showcased where they’re boldly going at this year’s Tribute Dinner.
Featuring William Shatner’s special presentation of Shatner’s World – We Just Live In It, the event shared significant news on how advancements in diagnostic imaging research can continue to spark new discoveries and innovations through a special gift presented by London X-Ray Associates (LXA).
Dr. Ali Islam, CEO and Managing Partner of LXA, announced to a sold-out crowd a gift from LXA to St. Joseph’s of $750,000 to advance imaging research. The gift is only a part of LXA’s historic philanthropic support of St. Joseph’s, which now totals in excess of $2.5 M.
LXA is a group of radiologists, technologists and other professionals dedicated to serving patients, physicians and hospitals in our community. LXA was established in London in 1931, marking 85 years of providing diagnostic medical imaging services to hospitals across southwestern Ontario.
“LXA’s work with St. Joseph’s has been a true partnership, “says Dr. Islam. “Imaging research at St. Joseph’s is known the world over, and our group is very pleased to help assure a bright future for this world class program.”
“St. Joseph’s continues to find answers to the medical issues Canadian’s face today by looking ahead to what the community needs to enable longer, healthier lives,” says Michelle Campbell, President and CEO, St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation. “This work is not done alone. It takes the support of a community to provide the environment for research to succeed.”
