Starting today, ratings of the patient experience in Ontario hospitals will be published on the Health Quality Ontario website. Focusing on various areas of clinical care, this information is meant to promote public access to easy-to-understand hospital performance information. Health Quality Ontario was launched in 2009 under the name myhospitalcare.ca and like other public reporting initiatives, strives to inspire improved performance and transparency, enhance patient safety, and strengthen the public’s confidence in Ontario’s hospitals.
St. Joseph's acute inpatient care was rated better than average for overall care. In addition, acute inpatient satisfaction with emotional support, information and education, and continuity and transition were rated above average for both years at St. Joseph’s. For Urgent Care, the overall quality of care was rated as better than average in 2009-10. All other dimensions were rated as being similar to the average of Ontario hospitals.
Ensuring our patients receive exceptional and safe patient care is at the core of our mission of helping all who come to us for care to maintain and improve their health. In our work as health providers we continuously strive to enhance the patient experience and ensure the best outcomes for all of our patients and clients. Having provincial information available in which we can assess our patient satisfaction data against is a helpful tool to ensure the best quality healthcare is provided to our patients.
