Dr. Richard O’Reilly is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, and a Professor of Psychiatry in the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.  He is the Director of Psychiatric Research at the Parkwood Institute in London, Ontario.  Dr. O’Reilly has co-led a program of research on the genetics of schizophrenia with Dr. Shiva Singh, which has lasted over 25 years.  In the last 10 years, the work has concentrated on DNA differences between monozygotic twins who are discordant for schizophrenia, and in particular, the study of epigenetic and de novo mutations using total genome sequencing.  Dr. O’Reilly also has an interest in mental health legislation and how different statutes can enhance or impede the access to timely necessary treatment.  Dr. O’Reilly has published over 100 articles in these two areas of research.
