St. Joseph's stroke services accredited with distinction Awarded by Accreditation Canada

St. Joseph’s Health Care London’s Parkwood Institute is proud to announce it has received Accreditation Canada’s Stroke Distinction™ for demonstrating clinical excellence and an outstanding commitment to leadership in stroke care. St. Joseph's is one of nine stroke centres in the Southwestern Ontario Stroke Network to receive this award.

Achieving Distinction recognizes St. Joseph's Parkwood Institute as a national leader in the provision of high-quality stroke care.

“Our team provides excellent quality care to the patients and caregivers we serve,” says Manny Paiva, St. Joseph’s Stroke Rehabilitation Program Coordinator. “We also act as resource to many community organizations when it comes to specialized stroke rehabilitation services. Achieving this award provides the team with the recognition they deserve for their commitment to enhancing stroke rehabilitation care and provides a strong foundation for our continuous quality improvement journey.”

An accreditation surveyor visited St. Joseph's in November to evaluate the organizations Stroke Program through interviews with staff, physicians, patients and families as well as community partners.

The program was praised for:

  • Quality of services offered
  • Rapid access to inpatient rehabilitation
  • Collaborative teamwork
  • Excellent collaboration with London Health Sciences Centre working to allow quick access to rehabilitation (expedited pathways)
  • Timely access to secondary stroke prevention services
  • Collaborative work to re-integrate patients in the community

About St. Joseph’s Stroke Rehabilitation Program

The Stroke Rehabilitation Program at St. Joseph’s Parkwood Institute provides stroke rehabilitation services for both inpatients and outpatients in hospital and the community. The program is made up of interprofessional teams and works closely with research teams to collaborate and coordinate research activity such as the Gray Centre for Mobility and Activity and Lawson research.
