We invite you to submit an abstract for presentation at the Joint Mental Health Research and Innovation Day - Addictions From Evidence to Action.

Event Objectives
At the end of the Joint Mental Health Research and Innovation Day, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and discuss innovative basic, clinical, and population-level mental health care and addiction research being conducted locally
  • Demonstrate enhanced familiarity with research being conducted locally on the etiology, pathophysiology, prevention, intervention, service delivery, recovery and rehabilitation of mental disorders and addiction
  • Reflect upon diverse methodological approaches to conducting innovative and impactful research in mental health and addiction care
  • Consider the potential value inherent in academic, healthcare, community, advocacy, and policy partnerships in enhancing mental health and addiction care, research, and service delivery

Joint Mental Health Research and Innovation Day is co-hosted and funded by the Department of Psychiatry (Western University), St. Joseph's Health Care London, and London Health Sciences Centre.

Submission Details
We encourage you to submit an abstract of no more than 250 words for the following presentation types:

  • Oral: For completed studies only. Oral presentations are reserved for research with finalized data and results ready for formal presentation. Oral presenters will be responsible for preparing their own slides and will have 20 minutes to present + 10 minutes for questions during a designated session and time. Additional oral presentation specifications will be emailed to presenters at a later stage once accepted.
  • Poster (printed/paper): For studies in the proposal phase, not yet collecting data, in progress, or for those who prefer not to present orally. Posters allow for sharing preliminary ideas, ongoing work, or early findings. Posters are print/paper only and will be viewed on poster boards. Presenters are responsible for printing their own posters and will have 30 minutes to present during a designated time. Additional printed/paper poster specifications will be emailed to presenters at a later stage once accepted.

    All abstracts must be submitted in full on or before the FINAL abstract deadline on Tuesday, July 14 at 4:00 PM EST. Your completed abstract will be reviewed after the abstract submission deadline. 

    Accepted abstracts will be eligible for the following presentation awards:
    •    Best Oral Presentation Overall ($200)
    •    Best Oral Presentation by a Trainee ($200)
    •    Best Poster Presentation Overall ($200)
    •    Best Poster Presentation by a Trainee ($200)

Accepted abstracts will be published online as part of the Joint Mental Health Research and Innovation Day Abstract Book. Please visit our main page to learn more about this event and how to register. Registration will open in September.

Abstracts submitted that exceed the word limit and do not include specific headings will be rejected or returned for revision.

>We will consider submissions for studies currently in progress. If you do not have methods or results/findings, please provide a description of what you expect/anticipate the methods to be, anticipated results (what do you expect to find? –> think about your hypothesis), and potential implications will be.

Learning Objectives
All abstract submissions must include three (3) learning objectives. For example, “by the end of this research presentation, attendees will be able to describe the key elements of compassion in mental health care.” Check eligibility using the Learning Objectives Tool which includes resources for writing and screening learning objectives. Submissions that fail to include three objectives or do not meet the criteria will be rejected or returned for revision.
