Congratulations to Dr. Laura Lyons, a physician at St. Joseph’s Family Medical and Dental Centre (FMDC), who is one of seven physicians in the province named Regional Family Physician of the Year for 2021 by the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP).

The OCFP awards program celebrates family medicine and the vital contributions that Ontario's family doctors make to their patients, communities and our health care system. Nominated by their colleagues and peers, award recipients exemplify the outstanding skill, knowledge and dedication within the profession.

Dr. Lyons, who recently stepped down as Medical Director of the FMDC – a role she held for 10 years – is recognized for providing comprehensive care in her numerous and diverse roles, from intrapartum obstetrics to palliative care.

In addition to her work at St. Joseph’s, she is Director of Family Medicine Obstetrics for the citywide Department of Family Medicine and a physician with the Obstetrics Clinic at London Health Sciences Centre for women needing prenatal care. An addiction medicine specialist and a valued consultant on addiction in pregnancy, Dr. Lyons is actively involved in hospital and community programs that support and treat people who are experiencing harms from drug use.

St. Joseph’s is proud to have such an exemplary, respected and passionate physician as part of our team. Learn more about why Dr. Lyons is so deserving of this award
