Third Age Outreach - Services
Third Age Outreach offers in-person, virtual and hybrid program opportunities. Third Age is a part of St. Joseph's Healthcare London's Specialized Geriatric Services program. This unique hospital outreach service is a community based Therapeutic Recreation Service and is located in the City of London's Kiwanis Senior's Community Centre at 78 Riverside Drive. All programs, educational courses, group activities and therapeutic assessments promote wellness, personal development, independence and improved quality of life for adults 55+ and older adults.

Programs and Services
Accessible Supported Aquatic Program (ASAP)
We are currently accepting names to our waitlist for the Spring 2026 class.
Date: Winter 2026 - January 13th - March 26th - this session is FULL
When: Tuesday & Thursday
Time: 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Cost: All participants will be required to purchase a one-year membership with Horton Street 50+ Centre. Purchase of the membership will allow each participant unlimited use of the Fitness Room, unlimited use of the pool during Open session times and involvement in other physical and social leisure opportunities offered monthly. In addition, there will be a sessional fee for the 20 classes. Please note we do not provide makeup classes for any missed sessions.
Accessible Aquatic Supportive Program
This is a warm water shallow exercise class for adults 55+ and older adults who may experience decreased mobility or other health related concerns and require support to exercise safely in a regular class environment. The water exercise class focuses on water walking, strength training, balance and stretching and is offered in partnership with Horton Street 50+ Centre.

Acorns and Oak Trees is an intergenerational program, matching adults 55+ and older adults with children.
If you enjoy spending time with children, playing games, sharing stories, singing songs, creating crafts or working on the computer, this program is a great fit for you! Acorns and Oak Trees strengthens connections between generations while helping participants feel more engaged and connected within their community. Throughout the school year, adults 55+ and children take part in a variety of fun and meaningful activities that create lasting memories.

Beat the Winter Blues - In-person Group
Beat the Winter Blues is a social and informative recreation program that offers both strategies and self-care tips to implement during the winter season to enhance your overall well-being. Topics may include the importance of sleep, nutrition, mental health, physical exercise, relaxation and engagement in leisure pursuits. Each session will also offer participants the opportunity to explore and experience various leisure activities aligned with the session's theme.

Between the Lines Book Club - In-person Group
Between the Lines Book Club is offered in partnership with the London Public Library from September to June. This one-of-a-kind book club offers opportunities to build your reading confidence, try out new genres, and enjoy great conversations with other enthusiastic readers. Blackout Poetry - In-person or Virtual

Blackout poetry is a creative writing technique that transforms existing text into a new poem by blacking out most of the words, leaving select ones visible. The remaining words reveal a fresh, often unexpected meaning, encouraging personal and artistic expression. This is a fun way to explore writing!

Crafters Corner - In-person or Virtual
Crafters Corner is a fun and welcoming group where adults 55+ and older adults can explore different crafts, try new projects, and enjoy great company. Throughout the winter months, there will be an opportunity to register for in-person or virtual sessions.

Dialogue Den - In-person Group
Are you ready to engage, challenge and expand your thinking? This group will offer participants the opportunity to have thoughtful dialogues, friendly debates and idea exchanges based on various topics presented in articles, documentaries, the media and podcasts.

Grey Matters - Virtual Education Series
Grey Matters is a virtual education series designed for ANYONE interested in learning more about memory and brain health. Each week, individual sessions will be presented by a variety of guest speakers covering key topic areas that can help improve brain function and overall cognitive well-being. Key topic areas include Aging and Memory, Brain Food, Exercise and Brain Health, Leisure and Brain Health, Music and Memory, Hearing Loss and Memory and Communication, Aging and Memory. These sessions are offered twice a year in the late Fall and Early Spring.

The Java Music program is a fun and supportive music program that is designed for ANYONE. The Java Music program offers a safe and welcoming space to connect, share, and enjoy music together. Leisure Buddies - Participant and/or Volunteer
The Leisure Buddies program is designed to support older adults in taking part in social and recreational activities while building meaningful connections with the community. The program pairs an older adult who would benefit from additional support with a volunteer "Leisure Buddy", and together they attend community-based social or recreational programs.

Living Life on Purpose - In-person
Living Life on Purpose is an in-person self-help program. Joining this group is a perfect opportunity to get out and learn customized ways to bring happiness to your life based on "The How of Happiness" by Sonja Lyubomirsky. You will be surprised at how simple it can be to make the changes you are looking for in your day-to-day life.

Purposeful Photography - In-person Group
This program offers participants the opportunity to explore their community and capture meaningful and purposeful photographs that will become part of a shared collection. These images are used as a creative way to tell personal stories and spark social, reminiscence-based conversations.
No camera is required to participate; however, if you have a telephone, tablet or iPad that can take photos, please bring your devices with you.
Weekly themes will be incorporated to inspire creativity in both the photography projects and the accompanying information-sharing sessions.

Supportive Golf League
Are you interested in learning how to golf using modifications and/or specialized equipment? Do you love golf but can no longer manage the regular golf courses or do not have others to play golf with?
This unique golf program welcomes people of all skills and abilities. Some participants are experienced golfers who no longer have a partner to play with, while others are learning the game for the first time or adapting their play to accommodate changes in physical health (e.g. golfing from a seated position, using one hand - left or right-side paralysis, managing low endurance, or addressing balance challenges).
We invite you to take part in this opportunity if you would like to enjoy golf in a fun, supportive, noncompetitive and social setting. Play all nine holes on this shortened course, or as many holes as you are comfortable with playing.

TACT- (Teaching Adults Computer Technology) - In-person
This unique individual education opportunity is offered based on instructor availability. Contact us at any time to have your name added to our wait list. Many individual sessions are currently running. Education sessions are offered in-person at the Third Age Outreach Office at 78 Riverside Drive.
Special features include:
- Opportunities to learn the basic functions for everyday use on personal laptops, chrome books, IPAD, tablet, iPhone, Samsung and Android.
- Explanation of various virtual platforms and social media platforms for everyday use.
- Please note this opportunity cannot assist with maintenance, recovery or creation of passwords.
What to Expect:
- You will meet 1:1 with a SJHC volunteer or staff member at the Third Age Outreach Office, located at 78 Riverside Drive.
- We will begin by scheduling three, one-hour sessions with you.
- If additional support is needed after these three sessions, you will be added to the waitlist.
- Please come prepared by identifying your learning needs and bringing a list of areas you would like to focus on.
- Please bring your own devices with you to the learning session.

TAO -DROM -Movement & Meditation

Learn about different methods of breathing and discover the techniques that work best for you. DROM involves varied multi – component movements that emphasizes targeted muscles for functional balance, strength and endurance. Fun for everyone with combinations of drumming, meditation & relaxation. FREE.

Trailblazers is a vibrant social leisure program designed for retired adults who want to stay active, engaged and connected with others. Each week, Trailblazers offers a variety of enjoyable activities from dialogue to games to guest speakers to workshops. Trailblazers is a wonderful opportunity to explore new interests, share laughter, and build lasting friendships in a relaxed and supportive environment.
