Treating Type 2 Diabetes & Cancer Care - A Balancing Act

  • Describe how cancer therapy influences diabetes management
  • Recognize the increased risk of complications from cancer therapy induced hyperglycemia
  • Develop a strategy for the successful management of patients with type 2 diabetes receiving cancer treatment

  • Explain titrations to insulin, including recommendations for once weekly insulins
  • Suggest changes to non-insulin antihyperglycemic agents in the perioperative period

Type 2 Diabetes and Peripheral Vascular Disease: From Early Detection to Limb Preservation

  • Describe the pathology and clinical spectrum of peripheral vascular disease in type 2 diabetes
  • Identify key strategies for early detection and risk stratification in patients with diabetes
  • Review evidence-based strategies for prevention and management of complications and to preserve limb health

Practical Strategies to Help Patients Stay on GLP-1 Receptor Agonist Therapy

  • Review dietary and physical activity recommendations to support patients initiating GLP-1 RA therapy
  • Discuss when and how to reinitiate GLP-1 RA therapy after interruptions or discontinuation.

Disrupted Sleep, Disrupted Metabolism: The link between Diabetes and Sleep Disordered Breathing 
Dr. William Reisman MD, MHSc, FRCPC

  • Discuss the common presentations of sleep disordered by breathing as they may appear in an outpatient clinic
  • Reveal what the appropriate diagnostic work-up for sleep disordered breathing, as well some of the basics of its treatment
  • Review current literature regarding the link between sleep disordered breathing and metabolic disorders
  • Be able to communicate to individuals with sleep disordered breathing what the benefits of pursuing treatment are, with a focus on the effects said treatments have on metabolism
