Further surgery reductions at St. Joseph’s Hospital

London Ontario – Several changes in day-to-day operations at St. Joseph’s Health Care London continue to be made in order to preserve clinical capacity, as cases of COVID-19 continue to grow in Ontario. In alignment with the provincial directive, St. Joseph’s Hospital has continued to reduce elective (non-urgent) surgeries and is beginning to further reduce other non-emergent clinical activity.

Beginning today, March 30, only urgent and emergency surgeries are proceeding. All elective and semi-urgent surgical cases are being postponed. Administrative clinical and physician leaders have been working in partnership to plan for these reductions.

We recognize that the changes in our service delivery cause uncertainty for our patients and their loved ones. Surgeries and procedures that are being cancelled will be rescheduled as a priority when capacity in the system improves and it is safe to proceed. Any patient whose appointment or procedure is impacted by these reductions, will receive direct communication from their physician to discuss their ongoing care plan.
