11,000 patients and counting

More than 11,000 patients have signed up for online access to their health information through MyCarePortal.

A test result. An upcoming appointment. A discharge summary.

For patients, being able to see this information online means it is available when they need it, rather than having to wait for a letter, a phone call or their next appointment.

MyCarePortal is a free, secure online portal that gives patients access to select information from their health record through OneChart, the shared electronic health record system used by St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s), London Health Sciences Centre and participating hospitals across the region.

Patients who enroll can see information from any participating hospital where they have a health record, including upcoming appointments, discharge summaries, and lab and imaging reports.

“Reaching 11,000 users is an important milestone for MyCarePortal,” says Nerissa Taylor, Manager of the Virtual Care Program and MyCarePortal. “It means more patients have access to information about their care when they need it. We’re grateful to the patients, caregivers and teams who helped shape and bring the portal to life.”

Built with patients, not just for patients

Launched in 2025, MyCarePortal was three years in development, with patients and caregivers working alongside clinicians and staff from the start..

A Patient and Caregiver Co-Design Team, with representatives from across the OneChart hospitals, helped shape the portal and the patient experience.

Jeanne Bank was one of them. As a care partner, she sees access to health information as essential to being involved in care.

“If patients are ever going to be truly a part of a health care team or make informed decisions, they need to be able to access their own health information as soon as it is available,” she says.

She describes the co-design work as a true partnership. “It was truly a collaborative effort – we were genuine partners from the very beginning in designing and creating a tool that will be helpful to people across this region,” she says. “As a care partner on the Team, my focus was always on making sure that the portal was easy to use and to understand by patients and their families.”

In patients’ own words

Patients who have shared feedback through the MyCarePortal experience survey say having their information close at hand helps them take a more active role in their care.

For some, it’s about timing. “Happy to see all my information at my fingertips so quickly,” one patient wrote. “I was still in ER and could see my chest X-ray report.”

For others, it’s about being prepared. “I like knowing when my tests will take place, and often the portal shows the date before I’m notified by mail,” another shared. “I also like seeing the test results as it helps me prepare my questions for my next appointment.”

That preparation can change the conversation in the exam room. “Having the reports allowed me to then converse with my physicians in an intelligent and comprehensive manner,” one patient said.

And sometimes it’s as simple as this: “Great layout and easy to navigate. Love being able to access my own health information.”

Making digital health easier to access

MyCarePortal is free for patients aged 16 and older who have received care at a participating OneChart hospital. Privacy and security are built in, with access limited to eligible patients through a secure online account.

Patients can enroll online or ask about MyCarePortal during an eligible outpatient visit, where staff can help them sign up in clinic.
