Charles joins St. Joseph’s from North Metropolitan Health Service in Western Australia, where he most recently served as Executive Director of People and Culture, overseeing services for an organization of more than 14,000 employees. Bringing a global perspective on people, culture development and health, he is motivated by work that helps make the world a better place.

Drawn by St. Joseph’s strong sense of community and inspired by the organization’s humility and strong ethics, Charles traded the Australian summer for our Canadian winter. From his very first interaction, he saw St. Joseph’s as a place where he could make a meaningful impact.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, he works closely with staff, physicians, researchers, volunteers and leaders across St. Joseph’s to support a healthy, inclusive and values-driven workplace culture.

Charles is driven by simplifying complex systems, strengthening organizational culture and focusing on the fundamentals; improving care for patients, residents and families, as well as bolstering work culture for staff and physicians. Recognizing that health care can be complex, he understands the importance of supportive environments where people feel enabled to do their best work.

One of his proudest professional achievements was designing the primary care workforce deployment program for England’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout; a fast-paced and challenging period when moving quickly helped save lives.

Charles attended St. Andrew’s College in Dublin, a progressive school that gave him the confidence to try new things without fear of failure- a mindset that has stayed with him throughout his career. He holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership and Management from the University of Birmingham and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
