A memorable night

Residents in the Veterans Care Program took part in a ceremonial puck drop and watched a London Knights hockey game in style on Remembrance Day

Fourteen resident Veterans were the special guests of honour at the London Knights hockey game on November 11. They enjoyed the game in style, thanks to Ryan Finch, President of Finch Auto Group.

In the ceremony before the game, 98-year-old Jack Byrne and 100-year-old Corporal George Herbert Beardshaw, were the true most valuable players when they participated in a puck drop.

Proudly wearing their military uniforms, Jack and George slowly made their way along a red carpet to centre ice for the ceremonial puck drop. The ceremony continued with the playing of the Last Post and a moment of silence to remember those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. The two Veterans bowed their heads remembering their fallen colleagues.

Following the ceremony, all the Veterans, along with the Knights mascot Scorzy, cheered on the Knights.

Finch, a long-time supporter of St. Joseph’s Health Care London, sponsored the 50/50 draw at the Knights game generating $12,268 for the Veterans Care Program.

After the final buzzer, the Knights beat the Guelph Storm 4-0, but the real winners were the Veterans who had a fun-filled night at the game.
