Volunteer Appointment Assistant Program
This free volunteer service can:
- Greet you at a designated hospital entrance and help you to your clinic appointment.
- Stay with you in the waiting room until you are called for your appointment.
- Accompany you to the cafeteria or onsite store while you wait (if desired).
- Escort you back to the entrance after your appointment.
- Wait with you until your ride arrives or assist you to call for your ride home, if needed.
Our volunteers are friendly, welcoming, compassionate, and ready to help you during your next visit.
To book an Appointment Assistant, please speak to the administration staff in your clinic. Appointments are available Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
Please note that the Appointment Assistant volunteer cannot:
- Assist with toileting or bathroom tasks; they must remain outside the main washroom door.
- Help with dressing or undressing before or after medical procedures.
- Handle money for meals, coffee, parking, or store purchases.
- Provide assistance off hospital property, such as in parking areas or at bus stops.
- Lift a patient from a wheelchair to a chair in the waiting room or into/out of a vehicle.
