Amputee rehabilitation program: admission criteria

  • Has an amputation of one or more limbs
  • Willing to work with the rehabilitation team and accept recommendations
  • Has a clear discharge destination 

Reasons why a patient may be declined or delayed

  • Cannot learn and retain the steps required to correctly put on the limb
  • Severe cardiac limitations
  • Severe bilateral knee or hip contractures
  • Bilateral above knee amputation (case specific exceptions are considered)
  • Uncontained incontinence
  • If the team deems it unsafe for the person to receive rehabilitation
  • Unsafe discharge destination: patients should ensure their home or place they will live after the program is accessible and safe for someone using a wheelchair and artificial limb
