Physical Maintenance Program

This is a half-day program aimed at maintaining function and mobility. A rehabilitation trainer and a therapeutic recreation specialist operate the program, with assistance from hospital volunteers.

Participants must be: able to stand and walk short distances with/without the use of a gait aid, independent with toileting, and must be without significant cognitive problems.

 

Parkinson’s Education Program

This is a seven-week program for individuals with Parkinson's Disease and their caregivers. It is run once per week and provides education, exercise and caregiver support groups.

There is no cost for the program.

Parkinson's Community Exercise Class

Parkinson's Community Exercise Class runs bi-weekly from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Geriatric Rehabilitation Day Hospital gym. Individuals attend either the Wednesday or Thursday class.

The Class is facilitated by a rehabilitation trainer and the exercises are specific to the needs of people with Parkinson's.  A doctor's referral by calling 519 685-4046 is required, followed by a screening by a physiotherapist before starting the classes.

Geriatric Clinics

Multiple Geriatric outpatient clinics target specific disorders and health issues of a geriatric nature. Depending on the type of clinic, services range from assessment, diagnosis, recommendations, intervention strategies, education and management.

Most clinics have a geriatrician/nurse practitioner and other disciplines such as nursing or physiotherapy for assessment and follow-up. Specialties include: aging brain and memory clinic, general geriatric, osteoporosis, and Parkinson's Disease.

 

Geriatric Mental Health Clinic

This clinic provides geriatric psychiatry consultation, assessment and treatment services for the London area.  All patients see a psychiatrist as part of the initial evaluation.

Some inpatient consultation and education to physicians, health care professionals and long term care facility staff is provided.
