Medical Affairs: Orientation - Getting Started

The following information will help guide new Residents and Clinical Fellows through their first few days of training:

Hospital ID Badge 

Residents and Clinical Fellows will need to bring government issued identification to one of the following locations either prior to or after June 29th. University Hospital will have an alternate location for ID Badges on Resident Orientation Day June 29th

Professional Staff and Trainee credentials will be confirmed by HR staff issuing the ID Badges

  • University Hospital: will be issuesd from Room CLL-102 (Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1600)
  • Victoria Hospital:  will be issued from Room C3-300, Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1600. Check in next door at Room C3-302 or C3-304 
  • St. Joseph's Hospital: Level 0, zone B, room B0-401C

Residents and Clinical Fellows
If your hospital start date is between May to September - your pager will be given to you at the June orientation day. If you are unable to attend the orienation, and you are on call during your first rotation, contact your Program Administrator. All other pagers not picked up at the orientation will be sent back to Pager Management and the individual will need to pick the pager up and sign for it at a later date.

If your hospital start date is between October to April - contact Pager Management at pagermanagement@lhsc.on.ca or by phone at 519-685-8500 extension 53939 to arrange pager pick up. All Residents and Clinical Fellows are required to have a hospital supplied pager, except if working at a Distributed Medical Education Site. Switchboard operators will only process pages to hospital leased pagers.

Professional Staff
Please contact Pager Management at pagermanagement@lhsc.on.ca or by phone at 519-685-8500 extension 53939 to arrange for a pager.

Repairs and/or replacement pagers are available through the below Switchboard centres. Residents and Clinical Fellows are responsible for payment of a lost or physically damaged pager due to misuse.

  • Victoria Hospital: E2-510

 * For urgent on-call pager repairs after hours, contact the switchboard

If you will be on a leave of absence for more than two months, please return your pager to the centres listed above at either University Hospital or Victoria Hospital. If you wish to have the same pager number when you return from your leave of absence, please ask to have your pager number placed on "reserve".

You must have your own personal and confidential dictating user ID number. To have your personal dictating user ID number arranged, please contact Transcription Services after you have attended the in class Electronic Health Records training.

Scrub Suits
LHSC Scrub uniforms are dispensed using the ScrubAvail ScrubEx dispensing system.The system is activated by using an access card and works as a credit/debit system.

If your hospital start date is between May to September -Scrub Suit cards can be obtained on orientation day. Business Office and Linen Services will be present where you can pay your deposit of $50 and obtain your card.

If you do not attend the orientation day, or if your hospital start date is between October to April - Residents and Clinical Fellows at LHSC are required to pay a $50 deposit fee (cash, cheque, or debit) for 2 sets of scrubs, before they are issued a scrub access card. A Scrub Suit Request Form # NS6713 is available on-line via the Forms Management website, or can be obtained from the Linen Rooms at each site. ** This form needs to be completed, authorized by Medical Affairs, and taken to the Business Office at either LHSC site.

Once your deposit has been made, take your authorized form and deposit slip to the Linen Department to be issued an access card. Upon your departure from LHSC and St. Joseph's, if your scrubs are accounted for in the system, you will be fully reimbursed your deposit fee. If scrub sets are missing, you will be reimbursed only for the sets accounted for. To receive your refund, you must complete a Cheque Requisition form at the Linen office and it will be submitted to HMMS along with your original deposit information. Once processed, a cheque will be mailed via Canada Post and takes 4-6 weeks.
There is a $10 fee for lost cards.

Dispensing Machines 3 machines located on the 2nd floor: operating room corridor; OR female locker room; and by Radiology near the elevators.

Students and residents are normally given access to the machine located by Radiology

2 machines located outside the operating rooms on the 2nd floor, 1 machine in the MRI corridor on the 1st floor, 1 machine in OB/GYN area on 4th floor B Zone.
Students and residents are normally given access to the machine located in the MRI corridor.

At St. Joseph's, the scrub deposit fee is $50.00 (cheque, money order, or credit card).

Once your payment has been made, please bring your receipt to the Customer Support Center. You will be required to fill out a form in order to receive your access card for the ScrubAvail scrub suit dispensing machine. Upon your resignation from LHSC and St. Joseph's, and your scrubs are found in the system, you will be fully reimbursed your deposit fee. If there are scrubs missing, you will be reimbursed only for the sets found in the system.

Dispensing Machines Located in OR corridor, level 1, zone C

Scrub suits are used in hospital settings as a protection to the patient as well as the employee. To ensure we continue to treat scrubs as more than a "uniform" it is imperative they not be worn outside the building while coming to the hospital or going home at the end of the day.

 Lab Coat Fundraiser

By purchasing a great looking lab coat, we thank you for your contribution to the Critical Care Nurse's Education Fund.

All lab coats are embroidered with the LHSC logo and may be personalized with your name and dept/position.

Parking can be arranged to automatically be deducted from your bi-weekly pay. Please contact the parking office for monthly costs. 519-685-2709.

Note: A deposit is required to obtain a transponder ($20 London Health Sciences Centre, $25 St. Joseph's Health Care London) which is refundable upon the return of the transponder. Victoria Hospital, University Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital require a transponder for parking.
