A highly dedicated care team in Urology provides clinical and surgical care for people with diseases of the female urinary tract and male reproductive organs. This includes conditions such as prostate or bladder cancer, urinary dysfunction and kidney stones.

St. Joseph’s is a surgical leader in urological care, pioneering lithotripsy and performing several world and national firsts in robotic surgery.

Your donation will support people living with painful and life-altering disorders and diseases.

Equipment and technology

Medical equipment and technology are important components to providing care. They are essential in:

  • diagnosing and treating disease;
  • guiding surgeons through complex procedures;
  • supporting patients in their recovery from illness or injury.

In urological care, equipment includes things like scopes, a urodynamic system which supports testing to measure lower urinary tract function, or C-Arm Fluroscopy Units, which provide crisp, clear images that guide surgeons performing surgery.

Surgical Fellowships

Surgical fellowships are training opportunities for emerging surgical leaders who are interested in further refining and advancing their surgical skills.

A surgical fellow in Urology will spend 12 months at St. Joseph’s gaining experience in endourology. They also have the opportunity to undertake multiple research projects that will advance patient care.

Surgeons from outside Ontario who want to learn from St. Joseph’s surgical leaders must self-fund or find funding to support their training experience. And that’s where your support comes in. It is urgently needed to fund a fellowship in urology that will allow advance surgical care for people in our community.

Medical Research

Research is at the heart of every health care advancement.

At. St. Joseph’s, we take a "bench to bedside" approach to medical research. This means taking discoveries from the laboratory and applying them in the clinic where they will directly benefit patients.

In Urology research is currently being focused in the areas of surgical innovation, men’s health and areas including microbiomes of the gut and urinary systems as they relate to kidney stones, urinary tract infection, overactive bladder, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, kidney transplants and urological cancers.
